In August

It’s the Perseid meteor shower, kind of a big deal guys.  Look towards the big dipper for the highest concentration of meteorites.

Excited about this.

Omg yaaaayyyyyy
Eeeee!!

please tell me I’m not the only one who wants to get cosplayed up to go watch this.

Oh FUCK YEAH

Whoa this is happening really soon I’M REALLY EXCITED OH GEEZ

It is a really cool thing, and kind of a big deal THIS YEAR because the Moon’s going to be a very thin waning crescent that doesn’t impact observation, but the Perseid meteor shower (and the six(!) minor showers concurrent with it) happen every year, and peak between August 12th and August 14th.
Additionally, best viewing (for ANY meteor shower) is in the early pre-dawn hours, rather than twilight! At that time of night, you’re on the leading edge of the Earth as it travels around the Sun, so the meteors have a much greater impact velocity and thus a much longer trail.
You won’t see anything like this picture, though - it’s of a comet, and while meteors from this shower are left by the evaporated tail of a comet, we won’t see the object itself. If you’re lucky, you’ll see a larger chunk of material fall - a so-called ‘fireball’ meteor, some of which break into smaller chunks as they enter the atmosphere and leave multiple ionization trails!  Zoom

Does it feel like a trial? I'm 21-year-old male astronomy, mathematics, physics, and science geek who plays a lot of video games and does art (poorly).

I also do performance dance in a traditional Scandinavian dance group.

Amateur astronomy is one of my passions. I own three telescopes, and my pride and joy is my 16" Meade Lightbridge. I keep my promises, and my friends mean the world to me.

I quite enjoy being asked things - I always answer truthfully, though not always as intended. Very personal things should be asked off anon so that I can answer privately.

It should be noted that I am vegetarian, homeschooled, an agnostic atheist, and a fairly upbeat individual
